Getting Flash Working on Android, Jelly Bean

images

Some popular video providers have not transitioned to HTML5, so if you still want Flash on your phone/tablet, there are ways around it — just keep in mind that this is not recommended by Adobe and that the experience with the plugin. Also note that downloading the Flash Player apk file from unofficial sources could open the gates to malware on your phone or tablet, so it’s not recommended to get the file from third-party sources.

The best source to download a working official version of Flash player is from Adobe’s own site. Download the latest version (Flash Player 11.1.for Android 4.0 (11.1.115.36)) Once you downloaded the apk file, you need to transfer it to you device.  A great free application that will help is “App Installer” you can get this from the Google Play store. Make sure you download this app!

Using “App Installer” find the flash player apk file, open the player  It will most likely say unknown sources.  Click on settings and check the unknown sources box, click on the flash player again and install it.

Now that Flash Player is installed, go to your browser (Not Chrome), and change some settings. Go to advanced, and make sure “enable plugin is always on!”

I did this myself on my galaxy S III and my Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet.

Have Fun!

Moving to Maui

Well I have decided that I will be moving to Maui!

Why Maui instead of staying on Oahu where I know the island so good from living there for so long, and where I have lots of friends, and I love surfing the North Shore. Well it is simple, I don’t NEED to be on Oahu like when I was going to school there, so I decided to move someplace where there is less traffic, and is more beautiful. I might still visit Oahu, but I would rather live where it is more mellow, and Maui is the perfect place for that.

See you soon Maui 🙂

What version of Adobe AIR runtime is installed?

To find out which version of the Adobe Air run time you have install is easy to find. I am using Mac OS X (Snow Leopard) so your path on another operating system might be a little different.

Open the the file /Library/Frameworks/Adobe AIR.framework/Versions/1.0/Resources/Info.plist in your favorite XML editor, and locate the <key>CFBundleVersion</key> entry (line 19).

The corresponding string below this entry (line 20) represents the version of Air, for your system. <string>2.0.2.12610</string>

Therefore on my Mac I am running Adobe Air version 2.0.2.12610

Flash Player 11.9 Beta

A new beta version of Adobe’s Flash Player is now available for Mac and Windows with a particular emphasis on OS X, featuring support for Mavericks and Mac .pkg installations.

Currently in beta, the new Adobe Flash Player 11.9.900.85 has been “tested against the latest developer releases of OS X 10.9 […] ensuring that Flash Player continues to perform as expected,” according to Adobe Systems.

With the new beta, Flash can now be installed via a .pkg (package) installer native to Macintosh platforms.

Adobe says the reason behind this move is to make deploying and updating Flash Player an easier task for system administrators worldwide.

“We’re introducing a new .pkg installer format for our distribution partners so we can reduce their workload by allowing them to deploy Flash Player for Mac using their current tools and environments,” according to the company.

On Windows platforms, the same update delivers only “new features for browser-based viewing of expressive content.”

Flash Player 11.9 Features

This beta release provides access to the Flash Player 11.9 runtime for Windows and Mac OS.

Below are some of the key features and benefits of Flash Player 11.9:

Mac OS 10.9 Support – We have tested against the latest developer releases of OS X 10.9 and are ensuring that Flash Player continues to perform as expected.

Mac .pkg Installation Support – Deploying Flash Player and keeping it up to date is a critical task for system administrators worldwide. Apache Flex 4.10 Released!

Today the Apache Flex Team has released the latest version to the Flex SDK, we are now at version 4.10.0!

Apache Flex 4.10.0 highlights include:

    • Support for latest versions of Flash Player and AIR runtimes. At the same time, we have made it easier for developers wanting to take advantage of the latest advances in the Flash runtimes by letting them choose the versions during installation. The Apache Flex SDK Installer now allows developers to select various combinations of the Flex SDK, Flash Player and AIR runtimes. All the settings and configurations are taken care of during the installation, so the developer can just start coding!
    • Improved support for older Flash Player versions. Enterprise environments have more stringent requirement in terms of upgrading Flash Player versions. Now, because of our improved backwards compatibility, those customers can safely upgrade to the latest version of the Flex SDK without having to force a Flash Player upgrade on their end users.
    • The new spark components ensure that SDK users can build functionalities quickly and in a more performant way. The need for handling these components in two different architecture styles (mx vs. spark) will be eliminated.
    • “Out of the box” support for Advanced Telemetry allowing developers to easily profile their application and improve performance using Adobe Scout.
    • Better localization for multiple languages. Flex 4.10.0 is better now when trying to make application for multiple countries and languages.
    • Better international support for dates in formatters, validators, and the DateField and DateChooser components.
    • Better for developer productivity – less Run Time Errors (RTEs) and workarounds required in 4.10.0
    • 480 dpi mobile resolution/skin support means that Flex SDK users can now target high resolution devices such as iOS Retina, etc.

Wrong wmode value in Starling

A common issue that occurs when you have not set the wmode attribute in the HTML page is the following message “This application is not correctly embedded (wrong wmode value)”.

The solution is very simple. Set the wmode attribute in the HTML to “direct”. I have included my HTML code below as an example. I have embedded the swf using the swfobject. In the Starling framework in order for Stage 3D and GPU acceleration to work the wmode must to be set to direct. If it is not set to direct you may get a runtime exception when you compile the swf. You will most likely get the Error 3707: Context3D not available.

<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<head>

 <title>Wrong wmode value in Starling</title>

 <script src="swfobject.js"></script>

 <script>

  var flashvars ={};
  var params = {};
  var attributes = { wmode:"direct" };

  swfobject.embedSWF("main.swf", "flashContent", "550", "400", "11", false, flashvars, params, attributes);

 </script>

</head>

<body>
 <div id="flashContent"></div>
</body>

</html>

Moving to Maui

Well I have decided that when I return to Hawaii I will be living on Maui!

Why Maui instead of going back to Oahu where I know the island so good from living there for so long, and where I have lots of friends, and I love surfing the North Shore. Well it is simple, I don’t NEED to be on Oahu like when I was going to school there, so I decided to move someplace where there is less traffic, and is more beautiful. I might still visit Oahu, but I would rather live where it is more mellow, and Maui is the perfect place for that.

I will be on the Mainland for a few more months finishing up my Studio Arts degree, and seeing the doctors here as well. I am hoping that i will be able to find good doctors on Maui, as I have Hepatitis C, and it comes with lots of medical problems, so I will need good doctors. I also have to find out if I can get my disability and SSI payments on Maui, so this summer I will travel there to check out the situation.

See you soon Maui 🙂

Heading to Full Sail University

In 2010 I discovered a wonderful program in Web Design & Development at Adobe Max, I watched a presentation Teaching the Adobe Flash Platform in Education. This was back when fullsail.com was a flex website, it was so awesome! I was amazed at the level of flash being taught by the school, and since then I always wanted to go there. I will be taking the online degree for Web Design & Development. Back in 2010 I was studying at the University of Hawaii for Oceanography, as I wanted to learn how to forecast the surf, and I am happy to say I now have that skill, but I did not finish the degree, too much math & physics.

Full Sail University seems like the  perfect school to learn more about web design and development!

Currently I am a flash developer, and the Manger of the Hawaii Flash User Group, I also used to be a ColdFusion Developer, but I have not done that for a while, and now the only time I use ColdFusion is for writing cfcs for flash remoting. I do know html & css, but I am not good at it at all! Therefore I want to learn more.

I really like the Full Sail approach to their courses as they teach mobile applications, html and flash. The degree in a sense is 2 degrees design and development mixed into 1 degree. I think after the program I will be really well rounded and could work for a number of companies, not to mention I will finally have a degree!

Full Sail is different than your average college as instead of taken a bunch of classes during the semester, you take a course a mouth. It is fast paced, but I kind of like the idea of taken just one subject once a month.

I am so excited that I will finally be able to attend Full Sail with the Help of my Father, see you in March Full Sail!

You can see the courses(many have been waived for me, such as the General Education) on full sail’s website

Of course I am the most excited about the Flash Courses 🙂

3D Platform

This is for a game that I am doing, it is based in Away 3D, to use it use the arrow keys and take the platform for a spin 😉
